A Farewell to 2020

Dear Springer community,

As we reach the end of a challenging, chaotic, and often dispiriting 2020, we are compelled to reflect not only on the devastation left in its wake, but also on the silver linings that have made this year tolerable and that give us hope for the next. Here are just a couple of the good things we have seen happen this year:

  • Our global community came together in unprecedented ways to help mitigate the spread of a terrible plague, and to develop vaccines that bring with them visions of normalcy returning in 2021;

  • Despite the isolation of stay-at-home orders, many of us found ways to enhance the bonds within our families and pods;

  • We connected and reconnected with friends and loved ones across the country and the world using video conferencing technology;

  • We became skilled sourdough bakers;

  • Civic engagement peaked across the country as record numbers of people turned out to vote in the 2020 election.

Great things have also happened in the Springer community, and reminded us why we love being a part of it:

  • In January we welcomed a terrific new principal to our school, closing a tumultuous chapter of rotating leaders, and opening a new one filled with vision, compassion, and optimism;

  • In April as the pandemic was just beginning to take hold, our community made Springer’s first Virtual Auction an unbridled success;

  • We embraced new, virtual community bonding events like our Summer Scavenger Hunt, Virtual Walk-a-Thon, and Gingerbread House Exhibition;

  • We observe our shared Springer pride on display daily as we walk through our neighborhood among dozens of Springer Strong yard signs;

  • Yet more reasons emerged for us to appreciate our teachers and staff as they quickly adapted to remote learning; helped guide our children through an uncertain and scary time; and now demonstrate their selfless dedication our community by putting on their masks and showing up for in-person school.

Above all, 2020 has reinforced the fact that Springer’s amazing community (families, children, teachers & staff, neighbors) is also its most important asset. And so as we wrap up this bizarre year, we want to thank each of you for being a part of our community, for helping it grow, and for embodying everything that makes Springer a wonderful place to be.

Happy Holidays from the Springer PTA
