Volunteering in your child’s school makes and impact on the quality of their education!

There is an impact you can make even if you only have 10 minutes a week!

We hope you will consider a generous donation of your time! If you’re not sure what you want to do, complete the form, and parent volunteer will help you find a spot.

Class Volunteer Lead

Our amazing teachers would love your help this year. Help them by organizing classroom volunteers, planning classroom parties, or coordinating field trip chaperones/drivers.

Walkathon

The Springer Walkathon is one of our two primary fundraising and community building activities. The Walkathon relies on parent volunteers, and there are fun volunteer opportunities for everyone. Proceeds support many programs.

Project Cornerstone

Project Cornerstone is a nationwide social-emotional development program committed to helping all children and teens feel valued, respected, and known. The program helps individuals and communities build a strong web of support around young people so they grow into healthy, caring, and responsible adults. Parent volunteers teach a guided monthly lesson based on children's literature.

Staff Appreciation

Given everything teachers do for their students, this is a super fun volunteer opportunity. It is a great way to show your appreciation and gratitude. There are lots of volunteer opportunities with varying time commitments.

Campus Safety

Every morning, Springer students can be found walking or biking to school. Parents help keep our students safe as they cross high traffic streets on their way!

Lunchtime Yard Duty

Every day, Springer students descend upon the playground for a lunch period that includes, sports, games, reading, writing, socializing, and any number of other activities. Help make sure they do it safely.

FUNvisors

Fun + Supervisor = FUNvisor! This program in the past has encompassed a wide variety of fun and engaging lunch time activities for students of all grades and interests, such as Springer Garden, Run4YourLife, Lego Club, Art Club, Springer Scribes, Yoga, STEMtastic Tuesdays, and Board Games. Parents can volunteer their time to help and are welcome to bring new interesting ideas to the program.

Art Docents

The Los Altos Art Docents are a dedicated group of trained volunteers, who teach art in a manner which expands and motivates the development of creativity and curiosity in the children of the Los Altos School District.

Interested in becoming a docent? No experience with teaching? No artistic talent? No problem – as soon as it is safe to do so, we will train you! Once trained, we ask our volunteers to commit to teach once a week in the classroom during the school year. If you don't have time to volunteer as an Art Docent, volunteer to help in your child's classroom when there is an Art Docent lesson being taught. All help is appreciated.

Living Classroom

Become the volunteer who trains the volunteers! Living Classroom is an LASD program which inspires children to learn and value our natural world through garden-based environmental education. Our hands-on lessons encompass science, math, social studies, environmental stewardship, healthy eating and sources of food.

Book Fair

We're looking for people to help plan and organize our annual student book fair at Springer, online books fairs, and/or shopping nights at Linden Tree in downtown Los Altos.

Campus Gardening

Parents help maintain the landscaping and garden, primarily weeding and pruning, approximately 2-4 hours per month.

Auction & Gala Event

The Springer Auction & Gala offers something for everyone while raising funds for our school! Volunteers are needed to help solicit auction items months in advance, complete data entry, manage marketing, create collateral, decorate the gala location, and more. There’s a way for EVERYONE to make a difference.

This committee organizes events that foster community and fun for Springer students and families. Some examples are the hoedown, family picnics, movie nights, bingo, math nights, and more. You create the fun!

Field Day

Field Day is the most fun school day of the year! Work with parents, students and teachers to end the school year with a blast. Event is in June the last Friday of school.

Junior Olympics

Work with other Springer parents and Mr. Heeb to prepare 4th-6th grade students for Junior Olympics (JO) held in the spring (usually April). There are lots of volunteer opportunities with varying time commitments throughout February-April.

The Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF) is a catalyst for educational excellence for students throughout the Los Altos School District. Your Springer LAEF representatives welcome volunteers interested in helping this non-profit volunteer organization.

The mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. The PTA’s nationwide network provides parents with the forum and tools to collectively influence the decisions that affect children not only at their school but also throughout their district.

Read-a-Thon

We would love to bring back this committee in 2023-2024! Springer Read-A-Thon is to encourage a love of reading among the students. Committee members will create individual reading logs as well as brainstorm and carry out various daily reading incentives.

Springer Gives Back

We would love to bring back this committee in 2023-2024! This program is a way for students to be involved in service and giving back to their community. This committee can use parent volunteers to help facilitate 2-3 school wide events per year.

New Families

Help welcome new members into the Springer Community! Duties include emailing new families throughout the Spring, planning summer TK/K play dates and older grade meetups, hosting a spot at Pop ‘n Stop to welcome new families, and assisting Mrs Khalid with campus tours or other meetings with new families in the Spring.

Yearbook

We are looking for one parent per grade level to help collect and review pictures for the annual yearbook to avoid duplicates and ensure a good representation of each grade/student. Little bit of work throughout the year! All online with flexible timing.

Get creative! Help create Springer's spirit wear! Your designs on the shirts, hoodies, hats, and more of the greatest students (and parents) in the world.

Library

Parent volunteers help the students with checking in / out library books. Parents can help in the library at the same time that their child's class will be in the library. Library time is approximately 30 minutes, potentially 1-2 times per month.
